Clasp prosthesis – what is it?
This is one of the types of removable prosthesis. Its name comes from the word “bügel”, which translates as “arc”. Unlike most similar designs made of plastic, the basis of the traditional clasp prosthesis is a cast metal frame on which an acrylic base is applied and put on artificial teeth that match your teeth in shape and color. A strong base of the clasp eliminates the need to create a strong plastic layer, which is why the volume of construction becomes smaller, and the prosthesis is much more comfortable to wear.
Indications for the use of clasp prostheses.
Dentists prefer to put patients fixed designs, as they do not cause them a sense of discomfort. However, there are cases when, due to economic reasons or because of the state of health, a person can not afford the most effective way of teeth restoration – implantation. Alternatively, we offer clasp prosthesis to the patient.
The main indications for their installation of clasp prostheses – the absence of three teeth in a row, it is also possible to install clasp prostheses with a significant lack of teeth. An important role in planning prosthetics of clasp prostheses is played by the state of the remaining teeth, their location and the condition of the mucous gum in the place of missing teeth. In most cases replacement of defects of the dentition with a clasp prosthesis is possible without additional orthopedic or surgical preparation.
What types of clasp prostheses are there?
Bugles differ in the type of attachment. Fastening of clasp prostheses can be shinirujushim, klammernym, zamkovym, and also telescopic. Each fixing element has several varieties, the choice of which depends on a particular clinical case.
Recently, clasp prosthesis on acetal base (soft plastic) has become popular. They are more elastic than clasp prostheses on a metal base. Acetal can be transparent, white or pink, because the clasp prosthesis on the acetal base has a pain soft fixation, than on the metal.
What are the features of a clasp prosthesis with clasps?
Clasp dentures on clasps are the most common and most budgetary of all kinds of similar constructions. Its fixation is due to clasps – hooks welded to the frame. They can perform both a support function and a supporting function. In the first version, the clamps are attached to the teeth, thereby keeping the bowl in the mouth.
If the prosthesis is shinning, the hooks act as a tool that reliably fixes not only the prosthesis, but also the teeth, which are loosened due to periodontitis or for some other reason. Another function of clasp prostheses is the correct distribution of the load between the teeth and the gum. In the case of clasps, 1/3 of the load is distributed to the teeth, while 2/3 falls on the gum.
What is a clasp prosthesis on locks, or attachments?
In this type of prosthesis, the function of the clasps is performed by micro-locks, which ensure a more rigid fixation of the structure. Each lock consists of two parts, one of which is welded to the prosthesis, and the second – to the supporting metal-ceramic crown. In order to fix the prosthesis in the oral cavity, just insert one groove into the other. The prosthesis on the attachments is more expensive than the clamping, because of the cost of materials. The load when it is worn spreads evenly – 50% falls on the gums, 50% – on the teeth, which positively affects the general condition of the oral cavity.
What are the features of the clasp prosthesis on telescopic crowns?
Telescopic clasp prosthesis is considered the most aesthetic among similar structures. Its fixation is provided by telescopic crowns, cast specially under a number of standing teeth. Before installing the prosthesis specialist sharpens the supporting teeth, covers them with metal, polishes and only after all the above manipulations puts the bugle. The prosthesis will stay perfectly perfect only if the removable and non-removable parts of the crown fully match. Therefore, its creation requires considerable cost and high accuracy in manufacturing, which significantly affects the cost.
What are the features of the clasp prosthesis quadrotti?
Kvadrotti is a non-metal clasp prosthesis. It is based on a polymer material such as acetal, covered with pink plastic. Due to the lack of metal, quadrottles are much easier and more convenient to wear, and in strength it is not inferior to the classical bugle. However, the price for it will be more than on the clam. An alternative version of the quadrotype is the Acry-french prosthesis, made of the same-name semi-transparent material. A specialist can also create a nylon clasp prosthesis on request. These types of structures are the ideal solution for people with allergies to metal.
What are the stages of fabrication and installation of clasp prostheses?
First, the specialist examines the oral cavity of the patient, sanitizes it and takes a picture, in order to determine which version of the design is ideal for this clinical case. Then the casts are removed and the bite is verified. Then the doctor sends a request to our laboratory, where the technician, guided by the data sent, casts the skeleton of the clasp prosthesis from the metal, covers it with acrylic, and then inserts plastic teeth made at the factory. What the color and size of the teeth will be, the doctor decides together with the patient, and how much they will be inserted into the prosthesis is determined by the prosthetist, guided by the height of the occlusion. The production of conventional clasp prostheses on the clasps, provided that the patient comes to the fitting at the appointed time, and the laboratory is at the clinic, takes no more than a week.
How to care for clasp dentures?
For clasp dentures you need the same care as for your own teeth. In a good way, you need to clean clasp dentures after each meal. Nevertheless, there are a huge number of people who, without taking off, wear a bugle for several years. It’s great, of course, that the prosthesis does not bother you at all, but do not forget that his life and health of the oral cavity directly depend on how you follow them.
Like any other design, the clasp prosthesis needs periodic maintenance from a doctor, who is recommended to visit once a half year.
